Software, web & mobile

Websites built to outlast the trend they launched in.

Designed around what your business actually needs to say, built on Laravel rather than a page builder you will grow out of, and supported by the people who made it.

There are two common ways to end up with a website you regret. One is a cheap template that looked fine until you needed it to do something specific. The other is an agency build so heavily customised that nobody else can touch it, which becomes a problem the day that agency stops answering the phone.

We build on Laravel - plain, well-supported technology that any competent developer can pick up. You own the code, the domain and the accounts. If you ever want to take it elsewhere, you can, and we will help you do it.

What drives the cost

Websites are quoted as a fixed price against a written scope. What moves it:

  • How many genuinely different page types there are - twenty pages using three layouts is a smaller job than six pages that all work differently.
  • Whether the content exists already or needs writing and photographing.
  • Anything the site has to talk to - a booking system, a CRM, stock, payments.
  • How much of it you need to be able to edit yourselves.

A brochure site for a small business is usually a few thousand pounds. If what you are describing is really a web application, we will say so early rather than quoting it as a website and discovering the difference later.

What you get

What a website project includes

Design around your content

We work out what the site has to say and who it is saying it to before drawing anything. Design decisions then have a reason behind them.

Built to be fast

Performance is a design constraint from the start, not something optimised at the end. It affects both what visitors do and how you rank.

Accessible as standard

Proper heading structure, keyboard navigation, real contrast ratios. It is the right thing to do and it happens to help your search visibility.

Editing where it makes sense

We build editing tools for the parts that genuinely change, and leave the rest alone. Not a page builder with four hundred settings you will never touch.

SEO foundations

Titles, descriptions, structured data, sitemap, sensible URLs and redirects from your old ones. The groundwork, in place from launch.

Hosting and aftercare

UK hosting with monitoring, backups and patching handled, and priority support from the people who built it.

How it works

How a website project runs

No engineer turning up unannounced, and no invoice with surprises on it.

  1. 1

    Work out the scope

What the site is for, what it has to do, what content exists and what needs writing. We would rather spend a week on this than six months building the wrong thing.

  2. 2

    Design

Real pages with real content, not a picture of a homepage. You see how it works on a phone at the same time as on a desktop.

  3. 3

    Build

On a staging link you can look at whenever you want. Regular updates - no silence for six weeks followed by a reveal.

  4. 4

    Launch and after

Redirects from the old URLs, Search Console set up, and support from us afterwards.

Questions

The things people ask first.

Yes, for the parts that change. We build editing for those and leave the structural bits alone, which keeps the site from slowly being pulled out of shape.

You do. Source code, domain, hosting accounts, analytics - all yours, handed over on request, no questions asked.

We will support an existing WordPress site, but we do not build new ones on it. Most of the sites we are asked to rescue are WordPress installs that collected fifteen plugins and became nobody's responsibility.

A straightforward brochure site is usually four to eight weeks from agreed scope to launch. The variable is almost always content rather than build time.

Sometimes. We will review honestly and tell you whether it is worth building on or whether you would spend less starting fresh - including when the honest answer costs us the bigger job.

Every project includes priority AfterCare support. Most clients stay on a support arrangement, but it is not a lock-in - it exists because software nobody maintains slowly stops working.

A quick word about cookies

We use a couple of cookies to make the site work, and we count visits with our own analytics - no third parties, no advertising, and no IP addresses stored. You can turn the counting off and we will not record your visit at all. Cookie policy.
